Description

The program for the 1975 show provided this description:
“D
ying Hard is the story of people working in the St. Lawrence mines, eloquently told in their own words. Here, according to Elliot Leyton, some one hundred miners are dead, and another hundred await an early death.”

The reasons? Cancer – produced by radiation from a nearby uranium deposit. Silicosis – due to dust inhaled from drilling dry” without ventilation, and related ailments including tuberculosis and chronic bronchitis.

Dying Hard is about dying. But it is also very much about living, with dignity and strength in the face of extreme suffering.

Dying Hard – a play whose words and music are those of the miners and their families.”
